Moodle Virtual Class Room (Webinar)

The Virtual Classroom (vCR) stands as the pinnacle of educational technology for Higher Education. It operates as an on-premise hosted scalable cluster, multi-million server and networking infrastructure. The backbone of this platform is the BigBlueButton web conferencing system, a free and open-source solution, tailored for online classes.

This cutting-edge platform revolutionizes the learning experience by maximizing the time dedicated to applied learning. It empowers students to collaborate seamlessly and receive real-time feedback, fostering an environment conducive to effective education.

Users have the flexibility to create personalized rooms for hosting sessions or effortlessly join others using concise and convenient links.

Furthermore, teachers affiliated with LEARN member institutions enjoy complimentary access to the platform, inclusive of free data usage. While the service operates without a formal Service Level Agreement (SLA), LEARN engineering commits to delivering the best possible service through diligent efforts. This ensures a high-quality educational experience for both educators and students within the vCR ecosystem.

01 - How to start VCR.

You can log in to VRC in two ways: one using institutional credentials and the other using EDUID.

Note: The VCR service is exclusively available for EDUID staff members. If you don't have an EDUID account, please refer to the following link: https://eduid.lk/

02 Log in to VCR using EDUID/Institutional credentials

  • Select the dropdown menu and choose 'equID Sri Lanka.' Afterward, click the 'Continue' button. If you have institutional credentials, you should choose your institute from the dropdown menu.
  • You will be redirected to the login page. Enter your EDUID username and password. If you have institutional credentials, enter those credentials instead.
  • Then you will gain access to Learn VCR.

03 Create VCR Classroom

  • after creating VCR Class room Copy URL
  • Log in to your Moodle site as a teacher or administrator.
  • Navigate to the course where you want to add the URL activity.
  • Click on the "Turn editing on" button to enable editing mode.
  • Click on the "Add an activity or resource" button.
  • Scroll down or use the search bar to find the "URL" activity module.
  • Fill in the Activity Details:
    • Activity name: Provide a descriptive name for the activity, so students understand its purpose.
    • External URL: Paste the full URL of VCR Meeting link you want to link to.
    • Description (optional): Add a brief description of the activity or the content of the linked resource.

04 Add VRC Repeater Session to Calendar

when VRC meeting repeat you can add it to the Calendar

  • Copy the VCR meeting link.
  • Navigate to the Dashboard Menu in Moodle.
  • Locate and access the Calendar on the Dashboard page.
  • Choose the date for the VCR Meeting or Click on "New Event" Button.
  • Add the following details:
    • Event title
    • Date
    • Type of event
    • Description
    • Location
    • Duration
  • If the VCR session repeats, select the "Repeat this event" button [8].
  • Specify the number of repeated weeks [9]in the "Repeat weekly" tab.
  • Then Click on "Save" Button.
