Attendance / Reports

The Attendance activity in Moodle is a tool that allows teachers to track student attendance in their courses. This activity can record whether students are present, absent, late, or excused for each class session. It helps in maintaining an organized record of attendance, which can be crucial for evaluating participation and understanding students' engagement levels.

Steps to Add an Attendance Activity:
  1. Log in to Moodle:
    • Access Moodle using your teacher credentials.
  1. Navigate to the Course:
    • From the Moodle dashboard, navigate to "BSc - IT."
    • Go to "Semester 01."
    • Click on the "Networking" course.
  1. Turn Editing On:
    • Within the "Networking" course, look for the "Turn editing on" button. This is usually located in the top-right corner of the course page.
    • Click on "Turn editing on."
  1. Add an Attendance Activity:
    • Scroll to the section where you want to add the attendance activity (e.g., Week 1, Topic 1).
    • Click on "Add an activity or resource."
    • Select "Attendance" from the list of activities and click "Add."
  1. Configure the Attendance Activity:
    • Attendance Name: Enter a name for the attendance activity, such as "Networking Attendance."
    • Description: Provide a brief description or instructions for the attendance activity. For example: `plaintext Use this tool to mark your attendance for each Networking class session. Please ensure you mark your attendance promptly. `
  1. Save and Display:
    • After configuring the attendance settings, click "Save and display" to proceed to the next step.
  1. Set Up Attendance Sessions:
    • Click on the "Add session" tab to create sessions for which you will track attendance.
    • Session Date: Select the date and time for the class session.
    • Duration: Set the duration of the session (e.g., 1 hour).
    • Create Multiple Sessions: If you want to create recurring sessions, you can use the "Repeat the session above as follows" option.
      • Choose the frequency (e.g., weekly).
      • Set the end date for the recurring sessions.
  1. Configure Status Set:
    • By default, Moodle provides statuses like Present, Absent, Late, and Excused. You can customize these if needed by clicking on the "Status set" tab.
    • Define the values and acronyms for each status.
  1. Save Sessions:
    • After setting up the sessions and statuses, click "Add" to save the sessions.

By following these steps, you will create an attendance activity in Moodle for the "Networking" course. This will enable you to efficiently track and manage student attendance throughout the semester.
