Surveys

A survey activity in Moodle is a pre-designed tool that allows teachers to collect data from students. It includes standardized survey instruments such as COLLES (Constructivist On-Line Learning Environment Survey) and ATTLS (Attitudes to Thinking and Learning Survey). These surveys are designed to gather feedback on various aspects of the learning environment and can be used to improve course design and delivery.

Scenario:

Assume you are a teacher for the "Networking" subject in the BSc - IT program, Semester 01. You want to create a survey activity to gather students' feedback and opinions on the "Introduction to Networking" topic. This survey activity will help you understand students' perspectives on the course content, teaching methods, and overall learning experience.

Steps to Create a Survey Activity:
  1. Log in to Moodle:
    • Access Moodle using your teacher credentials.
  1. Navigate to the Course:
    • From the Moodle dashboard, navigate to "BSc - IT."
    • Go to "Semester 01."
    • Click on the "Networking" course.
  1. Turn Editing On:
    • Within the "Networking" course, look for the "Turn editing on" button. This is usually located in the top-right corner of the course page.
    • Click on "Turn editing on."
  1. Add a Survey Activity:
    • Scroll to the section where you want to add the survey activity (e.g., Week 1, Topic 1).
    • Click on "Add an activity or resource."
    • Select "Survey" from the list of activities and click "Add."
  1. Configure the Survey Activity:
    • Survey Name: Enter a name for the survey activity, such as "Introduction to Networking Survey."
    • Description: Provide a brief description or instructions for the survey activity. For example:
Please complete this survey about the Introduction to Networking topic. Your feedback will help us understand your learning experience and improve the course. All responses are anonymous.

  1. Select Survey Type:
    • Choose the appropriate survey type based on your needs. Common options include:
      • COLLES (Constructivist On-Line Learning Environment Survey)
      • ATTLS (Attitudes to Thinking and Learning Survey)
  1. Save and Return to Course:
    • After configuring the survey settings, click "Save and return to course" or "Save and display" to finalize the survey activity.

By following these steps, you will create a survey activity in Moodle for the "Introduction to Networking" topic within the "Networking" course. This will enable you to collect standardized feedback from students and make informed decisions to enhance the learning experience.
